Diving from The Old Bridge : All the world’s a stage …

HD

On Saturday, September 24th, 2016, the Red Bull Cliff Diving Event was more spectacular than ever, to the delight of the tens of thousands of spectators.

Cliff Divers from around the world came to the iconic Mostar Bridge set amidst the picturesque backdrop to perform extraordinary feats of dare. Amongst, the charismatic Orlando Duque, the irrepressible Jonathan Paredes, dynamic Gary Hunt and the list goes on.

Journalists with their gigantic cameras swarmed around to the front of the diving scene.

This year, notably was special as the event includes women cliff divers. Also not to be missed, the Red Bull Extreme Sport Sky Divers.

The top achievers for this event are Czech Michal Navratil, Great Britain Gary Hunt, American David Colturi, Australian Rhianan Iffland, Canadian Lysanne Richard and American Cesilie Carlton.

In my eyes, as I am sure is the opinions of all who were at this event, all participants are already winners to have perform these daring performances.

The race of the Red Bull Cliff Diving Competition is far from over. It holds tournaments around the world. We wish the divers best of luck in their next competitions.

The excitement, the bohemian rock style music beat that was put together, the friendly cheering crowd in naturally scintillating environment took our breath away, simply unforgettable …

Being a bookworm, whilst the idea of personally doing extreme sport would be a bit too far fetched, to be part of it as a spectator, one can appreciate and wonder at the beauty and fluidity of these sports.

Every year, I tell my daughter that we might not have a birthday party next year. That the most important thing is that we have each other and our health. I felt that it was detriment to her well-being to know that ….

“Not everything in life one have to have. If it is very important, one can always work towards it.”

This year, we planned her birthday celebration a week after and we did not tell her until 2 days before the event. I am most proud that my daughter accepted the fact of no birthday party with stoic bravery. She made me laugh when she said she didn’t mind not having a party but when her friends started to ask her details of her birthday party. Her exact words: ” Earth, swallow me!” with a comical expression cracked me up. Her friends asked a day before her birthday. Used to giving, she had difficulty not having any to give. Other than that she was okay with a homemade meringue for her birthday.

You can imagine her surprise when we told her that she would be having her birthday party after all!

For her birthday cake, we ordered from the very same cake shop that we had previously ordered thrice from.

What can we say, excepting that we find ourselves very blessed to find a baker who is as thrilled as us over the creation of the birthday cake and the event.  Every time, we sent in our request, she and her team members would always be up for the challenge. This year, the baker and her team again exceeds our expectations.

My daughter’s excited squeals when she saw the cake, ” On my god! My cake is a carriage!!!” The children vying each other for the different parts of the cake and the floating balloons, the adults getting comfy and having a cozy chat made this a perfect event.

This inter-schools competition is held yearly between all schools under the Bosna Sema Education Institute Organisation. There are now 7 schools in total ranging from pre-schools to higher education learning. Students representing their schools came together to compete in activities with English as the main theme. The Head Director friendly reminder for all students to remember to have fun and that the purpose is not just to win competitions made this competition appropriately named Funglish.

But what impressed us the most was the sporting spirit of students from other schools coming personally to congratulate my daughter.

For after all, wasn’t it Aristotle who once said, “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all!”
